Sarah Thompson, PhD, RN

Dr. Thompson joined the CU Chancellor’s Office in the summer of 2017 to expand health professional education offerings at CU Denver, CU Anschutz and CU South Denver. Previously she was the dean and professor of the CU College of Nursing for five years. She previously held a joint appointment at the University of Nebraska as professor in the College of Public Health, Department of Health Services Research and Administration, and professor and associate dean of an academic program in the college of nursing. She completed a certificate in gerontology and has done much of her research in end-of-life care in nursing homes. Dr. Thompson held two hospice-related positions as case planners for Kansas City Hospice and St. John’s Regional Medical Center Home Health and Hospice in Joplin, MO. She became a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing in 2009, and based on her dedication, passion and hard work in nursing education, she was named one of the top 30 most influential deans of nursing in the country.
